I've been forcing myself to take more time on my work. Done with gouche. This is an entry for 's Miss SDL contest. Seeing as most people were going with the typical half-clothed pinup, I wanted to try something a little different--although I think it may look a bit typical for me.
So here's Yukino Jotaro Esperanza. Flamenco is a really beautiful dance, once you think about it.
My roommate suggested the use of collage. Don't know if it's too jarring, but it certainly is something unusual.
As usual, I apologize for the immensely unoriginal title.
This is beautiful. Perhaps the best thing I've seen of yours. The composition of shapes and colors are extremely successful. The collage is exactly the right level, not too intrusive, but providing a welcome secondary level of interest. The skin wash is perhaps getting a tiny bit too wet (and bringing up the fiber of the paper)? Or maybe you are using too much pigment (and it's not mixing evenly)? It doesn't have a smooth consistency that might improve on what is, regardless, a great piece.
Also, flamenco is awesome.

Wah, thanks! I was having problems with the gouche, because it's an entirely different medium for me. I think I might need some more work with it--it was either getting too grainy or starting to break up the bristol. Urgh.
I really appreciate your comments. I was worried that the stage would look awkward...but it does balance out! Whew.
Actually, the newspaper butterflies and floor look really nice. They fit in, not jarring at all. This is a beautiful picture all round, from the coloring to the design on Yukino's dress.
If you want some crit though, her right arm looks just a bit too long, and the hand appears to be the wrong way round...?

EPIC FAILURE: When everyday, run-of-the-mill failure just isn't good enough. -- Sure hope I think of something before I hit the ground.
Hmm, yeah, you may be right with the arm, now that I look at it. Crap, almost had it!
AGH. No, the hand's the right way round, it's just that I'm so terrible at drawing hands that it doesn't even resemble one. That probably brings down this piece, too...I should practice drawing hands.
Uah, this is very pretty m'dear! The composition is really successful, and you did a great job utilizing alot of lines of motion without making it look unfocused, definitely hard to pull off. In fact, all of your lines eventually lead to her face, so great job with that framing technique! <3
I agree with the skin tone comments above, the bristol is breaking up a bit, but the colours you chose all work very well together. When I hear the word collage, I usually shudder a bit, but I actually really like the way you incorporated into the piece, definitely suits it ~
